THE GIFT OF TIME with Susannah Waters

In this summer’s weekend at the High Weald Retreat Centre, the emphasis will be on free time for you and your story. A time to ask questions without the interruption of domestic tasks; a time to get some new ideas and scenes onto the page. Susannah will be offering a daily half-hour, 1-2-1 session with each writer, in which to explore his/her Story and the way forward. On the first evening, you will look through the latest synopsis to identify any strands that have been dropped, or to brainstorm new directions. Throughout the weekend, Susannah will designate a series of focused, two hour-long writing sessions, in which writers can find their own place to work, and listen out for a bell rung to indicate the end of this time. This will be followed by a half-hour break in which to do something quiet and physical and away from the page - go for a walk, swim in the natural swimming pond, take a sauna – while continuing to consider their story and what it needs – before the ringing of the bell that signals the next focused writing period.. The aim of this gently structured schedule is to create a productive rhythm to each writer’s day, ending up with a relaxing social time around a meal in the evenings! Al fresco, if possible.

£380 fully inclusive of tuition, accommodation, and all meals. The retreat runs from 4pm Thursday to 4pm Sunday. All rooms are single occupancy with your own desk. Limited to 9 places – book early to avoid disappointment. We will endeavour to make this retreat Covid-safe and will be contacting participants with further information nearer the time.

The High Weald Retreat Centre is set in the High Weald AONB. Our beautiful gardens include many peaceful spots for writing as well as a natural swimming pond. We are six miles from Rye and ten miles from Hastings.
